I'm a big fan of the various isometric environments out there, so I thought a fun project was to make a reconstruction in the style of an isometric room! This is a loose interpretation of the recently uncovered "Thermopolium of Regio V" in Pompeii, based off of published photos from Luigi Spina from the Parco Archeologico di Pompei and from the Instagram of former park director Massimo Osanna. As no plans or excavation reports have been published, I used fSpy to generate a scene based on some of the photos and worked from there. Other aspects like the layout of the backrooms are hypothetical as, again, no plans have been published. If you want more archaeological discussion of this reconstruction, check out my thread on twitter: https://twitter.com/ab_foglia/status/1421367523107229703
From a modelling perspective this was done in Blender and rendered using Eevee. This is a low poly, real-tim scene with under 300k tris total. I used atlas/trim sheets for almost everything. I used the Photographer addon to get the right color temps for the lighting. Almost everything was made by myself using Blender, Designer, Painter, Marmoset (baking) and Metashape (photogrammetry). The pear, garlic, and roast chestnut are free models from Sketchfab. The fish, lavender, dates, and stews are made using free stock photos off Pixabay. The smoke textures are from Textures.com
I also wanted to shout out my two most direct art inspirations for this, check them out!:
